Our system is modeled after Kal Wallner's electric brewery. We then added a control panel and Brewery Control System from Ryan Gray at Electric Brew Supply to complete the build. Our system started as a 1BBL (31 gallon) set-up and in June 2016 we expanded to 2 BBL's (62 gallon). Our brew table was custom built for us by Tom at Inspiration Metalworks.
The hot liquor tank (HLT) and boil kettle are heated by computer controlled stainless steel hot water heater elements, and the mash maintains temperature by recirculating wort through a 50-foot stainless steel coil which is housed in the HLT.
Additionally, we try to build what we need and use what we have. Our grain mill, for example, started life as a Monster Mill 3, and was then mounted to a second-hand table and motorized.
At Fainting Goat, we care about the environment. All our spent grain is picked up by a local cattle farmer to be used as feed. We recently added a 100 Gallon cold liquor tank housed in our walk-in cooler. This tank cut our chilling water usage by two-thirds and we recycle hot water generated by chilling wort to clean equipment and fermenters. Finally, we only use environmentally safe, biodegradable cleaners and sanitizers.
